Dear Political Party People

PAAAARTY PEOPLE… I get that republican, Independent and Democratic points of view have opposing issues. I also get that people from opposing parties will disagree. It’s a tale as old as time. But why must we take things to the extreme? Hate is such a strong feeling and cultivates violent acts. Not only does it incite aggression it leaves a person with emotional turmoil. That unrest can be life draining. Is it really worth it, getting yourself so riled up that you're spitting mad giving the person you are arguing with a water baptism with your saliva sprinkles? EEW! It is okay to agree to disagree. That is what makes our country so fantastic, freedom to think, speak, and decide for ourselves. Freedom to go to church or not. To vote democrat or republican. The means to bear arms. The ability to have a fair trial. Rights! Our forefathers had the aptitude to create a government that was for the people, by the people.

That is the key word, people. Human beings, living persons, a mortal life. We are precious, tough, yet fragile creatures. We should respect the beauty of the life God has given. Not just our own, but those around us. I can say this to you because I know what it is like to disregard other’s feelings. I have done it. I have put down someone for their way of life and beliefs. I know what it is like to hurt another with my actions and words. It is an ugly feeling to be so self-righteous you don’t care who you trample on. I can tell you in all honesty that the only thing it does is drive a wedge between you and the person you find at the opposing end of your beliefs. What a shame not to have that relationship blossoming as it once did.

It is okay to have different opinions. How boring it would be if we all thought the same. Let us celebrate our diversity. By all means, debate! I love a good argument, but do it with respect. There is nothing I like more than to watch a good debate on TV. I enjoy watching two opponents call each other out on their BS. I like listening to a politician stroke their own ego before his or her adversary yanks the rug out from under their feet. It calls for great cinema. I so enjoy getting riled up over the dramatics of the great debate. What I hate is the fall out after. Facebook becomes a nasty hunting ground. Tik Tok is a field of slander and slur. The joy of scrolling is lost in the destructive speech. Absolutely nothing good is accomplished. Butts are hurt, feelings stomped and hatred fueled and sometimes, the most disgraceful events occur. Life is too precious to be snuffed out due to rage caused by differing opinions.

All that does is take away the possibilities that may have come to fruition had that light not been extinguished by  hatred. Remember, it is okay to agree to disagree. It is okay to remain on opposite ends of the spectrum and still be friends. Be paaaarty peeeeople and not party poopers. Celebrate our political diversity.

Sincerely,

Rambling Roxy
